Supermarket shopping will never be the same. Chanel’s AW14 show was bold, provocative and brilliant, it was a celebration of consumerism, from the ‘grand magasin’ set-up to the outfits. Lagerfeld’s message was crystal clear and as far as beauty’s concerned, we got the point: from now on it will be ok to go grocery shopping in Chanel tweed, whether it is worn as a coat or in the hair.

Oh yes, Chanel fabrics embellished model’s strands for the show and Sam McKnight - at the helm of the hairstyling - proudly posted pictures of his masterpieces to Instagram as the girls walked down the Chanel Shopping Centre aisles.

What he did was converting lazy day ponytails into seriously luxe pieces that alluded to high-fashion dreadlocks. In order not to let anyone disappointed, McKnight posted on Istagram a brief how-to: “I exaggerated a simple pony and blew it up in proportion and detail, incorporating crimped extensions, braided hair in multicoloured Chanel tweed rags, lace and pearls. I used Fudge Salt Spray then Oribe texturiser to create a dry volume which was then crimped randomly, woven and braided with the Chanel fabrics, and fastened at the base with one of the woven braids.”

As far as the make-up, brights colors were on top. Depending on each model skin tone and eye shape, Chanel's makeup artists choose different shades of an ultra bright hue (either pink, orange, green or red) and created bold cat eyes from the middle of the upper lash line and extending out toward the hair line. Lids had a halo of Illusion d'Ombre in Epatant or Fantasme that worked as base for the flicks and lips wore either Rouge Allure in Charmeuse or Conquise, or Rouge Coco in Chérie. Skin was prepped with Hydra Beauty products and evened out with the new Perfection Lumière Velvet (it will hit the shelves in April). Highlights were made with Éclat Lumière and a healthy flush was given thanks to a hint of Joues Contraste in Canaille (on the shelves from April as well).

Long story short, this look packed a punch.
