The offbeat beauty look at Dior Fall 2015

Code laterali dal feel futuristico, sguardi aggressivi dipinti in blocchi di colore con il più semplice degli applicatori in gommapiuma e manicure spaiate hanno gettato le basi dello stravagante beauty look voluto da Raf Simons e Peter Philips per il prossimo inverno di Christian Dior.
Dimenticatevi i tecnicismi e voli pindarici delle scorse stagioni, questa volta ad adornare gli occhi delle modelle non sono vernici al latex, ne’ eyeliner specchiati d’avanguardia, bensì i più classici pigmenti per occhi applicati con il pennellino in spugna più conosciuto (e snobbato, di solito, da makeup artist e non solo).

Ebbene si, Peter Philips a questo giro si è voluto avvicinare al nostro day-to-day e, mantenendo una connotazione couture, ha elevato lo strumento beauty più banale a un nuovo livello: quello di alleato imprescindibile di un look. Richiamando le forme organiche e i turbinii animalier dei colori stampati sugli abiti, ha selezionato quattro sfumature prettamente autunnali (kaki, blu navy, prugna e bronzo dalle 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palettes in Exubérante and Eclectic della collezione a venire) e le ha dipinte in perfetti blocchi monocromatici a mezza luna dal finish metallizzato sulle palpebre delle modelle. Cosa che, senza la forma arrotondata del pennello e la gommapiuma che lo connota (che impregnandosi d’acqua trasforma anche il pimento più trasparente in qualcosa di super coprente) non sarebbe riuscito a fare così bene. Un risultato tanto sorprendente quanto selvaggio che è stato poi ulteriormente intensificato con più strati di Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum e Diorshow Mascara in Pro Black* e con una linea di Diorshow Pro Liner nella stessa sfumatura nera* tracciata rasente alla rima ciliare. Infine, per controbilanciare l’aggressività e l’importanza dello sguardo, la pelle è stata tenuta nuda grazie al fondotinta fluido Diorskin Star, senza blush o bronzer, ma con solo un accenno di highlighter (Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Powder*) sugli zigomi e un tocco di correttore (Dior “Fix It” 2-in-1 Prime & Conceal Stick*) sulle labbra per annullare il loro colore naturale.
Sulle mani si è visto poi un doppio gioco di smalti. Partendo dell’idea di abbinare la borsa e la manicure e assecondando le asimmetrie degli abiti, Peter Philips ha deciso di giocare con colori diversi sulle mani e ha abbinato in un duetto di ton-sur-ton i Dior Vernis in Black Out, Cosmopolite, Darling Blu, Metropolis (della Collezione Dior Vernis Fall 2015) e Nuit 1947 per un risultato sottile, un dettaglio che comunque fa la differenza.
L’anticonformismo di makeup e mani non poteva non avere un richiamo nell’hairstyle, dove Guido Palau ha elevato la coda laterale ad un nuovo livello. Discostandosi dai riferimenti Anni Ottanta tipici dell’acconciatura e muovendosi verso una connotazione più “sinistramente sofisticata” ha dato vita a un look futuristico dal piglio decisamente attuale.
In poche parole questa stagione abbiamo assistito alla nascita di un lato più dark, quasi animalesco, della donna Dior che si muove fra una femminilità fluida e la voglia di farsi notare con grafismi accentuati. D'altro canto, siamo onesti, tutte abbiamo bisogno di andare contro alle regole di tanto in tanto, e ciò che è stato proposto dai guru dello stile di Dior è solo la possibilità di essere un po’ più insolite senza però perdere d’occhio lo stile e l’eleganza.

Dramatic side ponytails with a future feeling, aggressive color-blocked eyes painted with the most basic foam applicator and moody mismatched manicures were the foundation of the offbeat beauty look at Dior’s Fall 2015 Fashion Show.
Mirroring the swoops and swirls of color printed on the House’s fall 2015 collection, Peter Philips enveloped eyes in graphic kidney-shapes using not professional brushes but the foam sponge applicator tucked inside Dior’s forthcoming 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow palettes in Exubérante and Eclectic.
Don’t be surprise, foam applicators can be simple and unpretentious but they do their job (otherwise, why putting them in our most beloved palettes?) and for the creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup they were the best way to help his team having “his hand”: indeed, the foam applicator acted like as stamp on the eye so that every makeup artist of the team had just to perfectly replicate Philips’ movement to achieve the same kidney-shape (in action: push the applicator into the inner corner of the eye and curve it up toward the middle of the lid and follow afterwards the same movement from the outer corner inward). Even more, once the sponge brush is dampened it is the best tool to transform a sheer eyeshadow into a metallic and opaque one. The result was a striking and aggressive, color-blocked eye in a palette of deep autumnal shades of khaki, navy, prune and brick that was further intensified by multiple coats of Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum and Diorshow Mascara in Pro Black* and by a line of Diorshow Pro Liner in the same shade* near the roots. To counterbalance the importance of the eye, skin was kept free of blush and bronzer, only a hint of highlighter (Diorskin Nude Cosmopolite Powder*) was used on cheeks and concealer (Dior “Fix It” 2-in-1 Prime & Conceal Stick*) was applied on lips to blot out their natural color.
Moving on to the nails, it was a dual polish job. Starting off with the idea of complementing the bag the model would be holding, Peter Philips decided to play with different colors on each hand and using the forthcoming Dior Vernis in Black Out, Cosmopolite, Darling Blue and Metropolis he matched them (staying in the same shade family) for a subtle result, a detail you had to get up close to notice.
The offbeat mood of makeup and manicure continued in the hairstyle, where Guido Palau took side ponytail to the next level moving away from its classic 80s connotation towards a more “sinisterly sophisticated” and future-sque one. In a continuation of the Pre-Fall’s child-like plait and the Couture’s ponytail decorated with metallic rings, the long, slick side ponytail created for next fall is definitely something new.
Long story short this season was, indeed, a slightly dark departure from the beauty looks we were used to see on Dior’s runway but, lets be honest, every girl needs to break the rules from time to time and that’s what I loved about this show, the possibility of be edgy with style.
